An at Home Cocktail for Father’s Day

Today I’m sharing an at home Father’s Day cocktail to toast the husbands and fathers in your life! Coming off of some really crazy couple of months, I’m so grateful that my husband was my partner in all of this and he really stepped it up to help at home when I needed it. Being alone with the kids and other responsibilities, not to mention the undeniable stressors of the year 2020, etc. with nothing to break it up and get some relief has been, at the very least to say overwhelming. Knowing that I didn’t have to even ask him to throw a load of laundry in, do the dishes or physically wrestle with the boys when I couldn’t do to it has made me realize that we are a great team in this crazy world. This Father’s Day I wanted to treat him to one of his favorite cocktails, an ‘old fashioned’ with an “old fashioned night in”. I’ve been trying my hand at some of our favorite cocktails like margaritas and bloody Mary’s/Maria’s, but one that has always intimidated me was an old fashioned. Luckily, DeKuyper has the ‘Classic Ol’ Fashion’ liqueur that makes creating this cocktail at home *really fast* and *really simple*! Let’s face it, at the end of a long day full of work, 2020, and keeping the kids happy, this is exactly what we need!

If you are looking for a gift idea this Father’s Day, an at home Father’s Day cocktail set like this is ideal! It’s the perfect present to enjoy WITH your hubby after dinner and makes a good foundation for your at home bar. DeKuyper recommends Jim Beam extra aged bourbon to complement their Old Fashioned cocktail so that is what I used here. I followed the mixing directions on the bottle and it was a little strong for me, so next time I will probably do equal parts rather than 2 to 1, but that is totally based on a personal preference! The other thing I need in my drink is lots of ice, I love when it starts to melt slowly and I can just sip on this after the kids go to bed. Below is a list of everything you need to set up your own at home cocktail for Father’s Day! Cheers!

All you need for your Father’s Day “old fashioned” celebration:

1 Bottle DeKuyper® Classic Ol’ Fashion liqueur

1 Bottle Jim Beam Black Bourbon

Ice Cubes, Preferably from large silicon molds

Oranges (I like orange peels and/or orange slices in my drink)

Cherries (I prefer real cherries over Maraschino, but didn’t have any when I made these)

Snacks like popcorn, peanuts, pretzels, etc. (pick his favorites!)

Double Old Fashioned Glasses

Tray for serving (I love having round wood trays on hand)
