Nick Jr. Live! at the Benedum Center

Over the weekend, we had the chance to attend the Nick Jr. Live! show at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh. These are songs we’ve been singing for over 5 years, so it’s a lot of fun to basically have the characters come to life in a kids concert full of singing and dancing. If you are looking for fun things to do in the cold winter months, this is around the time that children’s shows are touring through cities (typically scheduled end of December through March). It’s so wonderful being able to expose our kids to the arts, and we are lucky to have a great cultural district here in Pittsburgh.

I didn’t know what to expect since this was the first year Nick Jr. has done this show, but my oldest raved about it afterward and my youngest surprisingly sat/danced through the whole thing! This show is suited to children ages 1-6, which was perfect for my kids and my husband and I loved seeing them light up with excitement. It was adorable, the performers were high energy the entire time and we were lucky enough to get to meet Dora and Rubble with our VIP passes after the show!

A couple quick tips to make taking your kids to the theater a little bit easier:

  1. Leave earlier than you think you will need to, giving yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Think about unforeseen traffic, parking, walking to the show, if you need to pick up tickets at the box office, letting your kids check out the merchandise, bathroom, then finding your seats. All these little things quickly add up so try to be there at least 30 minutes before the show is scheduled to go on!
  2. Buy your tickets as early as possible, as ticket prices may go up the closer it gets to the show date. Not to mention you will have a better choice of seats and the chance to book a VIP experience for after the show.
  3. Have an idea of where parking garages are in your location. Since most of these shows take place in the colder winter months (it was FREEZING the day we went!) have an idea of where the nearest parking garages are before you go because walking further than you need to with little kids in freezing temperatures is not ideal!
